Connectivity in South Korea
South Korea's mobile networks are consistently fast, and that holds true on the KTX high-speed line, inside subway stations and throughout most buildings in Seoul, Busan and beyond. Daily life here runs heavily through apps — transport cards, restaurant queue systems, taxi hailing and even palace ticket bookings — so being without a connection is more of a genuine handicap than in most countries. Jeju Island and the more mountainous national parks such as Seoraksan carry slightly less consistent coverage than the mainland cities, though even there towns and trailheads are generally fine. Visitors who plan to navigate by phone constantly, particularly first-time travellers relying on translation apps in restaurants and markets, tend to use noticeably more data than those sticking to central Seoul.
Coverage and hotspot
These plans run on the operators listed above. Coverage follows those networks, so it is strongest in cities and along main routes.

Before you buy
Is your phone eSIM ready?
Two things decide it: your phone must have eSIM hardware, and it must be carrier-unlocked.
Check your own phone
Open the dialler and enter *#06#. If an EID appears next to the IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware. This beats any model list and never goes stale.
Carrier lock blocks it
eSIM hardware is not enough. A phone locked to a network — common with contract and instalment purchases — will refuse the profile. Ask your operator to unlock it before you travel.
Regional exceptions
iPhones sold in mainland China have no eSIM hardware. Some Samsung and Pixel variants differ by region and by the carrier that sold them, so run the *#06# check rather than trusting the model name.
If the EID check is unclear, message us with your exact model before you buy.
